Installed content?

I have been going through the installed content in my game launcher.

Some of the patterns have little icons inside the block, I do not go to other sites to dl stuff so I was wondering if you guys could help.

Where do they come from?

'SW3' in the block?

One that is outlined in purple with a 'plumbob' inside it?

One with a 'W' inside it?

Dee, those boxer shorts of Fred's are originally by someone called alex and the lipgloss has the name Suza_simplestyling.

Patterns are safe right? They did not mess up my game with the patch other than the normal glitches everyone is having... no blue lots or anything like that though.

Makeup is ok? Is it just mods and hacks that change the core game files that are a problem?

  1. The S3W means it's custom content that somebody created with a program called Sims 3 Workshop. They must have come with a sim or house you downloaded. Some of them are gorgeous patterns that I'm keeping, but one's an eyeshadow, and I know damn well I didn't download that myself. I don't download eye shadow.

I've seen the other two icons but have deleted whatever they were on, last time I did a housecleaning. I thought the plumbob meant it was from EA, but I don't know for sure.

  3. I just scan everything, even if I think it's fine. I think 90% of the stuff is probably safe, it's just that people get so paranoid and try to convince everybody of the worst. And of course it only takes one bad thing to mess you up.

What this has taught me is to scan my downloads folder frequently, because you don't know when something is going to come with freebies you weren't expecting. I had only been scanning thing I downloaded myself. Now I know better.

  4. I was thinking about "safe" as in not putting a virus on your computer. As far as messing up your game, I would think that things like patterns would be ok, but what do I know? ;) I know I've been reading about jerks deliberately planting invisible CAS items on sims that mess up that sim. But you're right about the mods. A "core" mod can mess up the game, but the "tuning" mods can't hurt your game, if I understand correctly. Awesome mod is a core mod - it changes "core" game behavior, the deep down coding of the game.

    Sorry I'm so wordy ;)

  6. No, no, thanks for the reply!

There is so much hearsay, rumour and nonsense going around in the forum one doesn't know what or who to believe, so I thought I'd rather just ask you guys instead.

I have an antivirus that immediately stops a dl if there is something fishy, it also doesn't let me go to any sites that might be possible risks, so I think I am ok?

I saw there are 2 files causing problems that end with '.nkd', it's toddler stuff and apparently makes your sims appear naked LOL.. the metallica toddler tshirt makes the arms go long and freaky. I had the metallica pattern, which must have come from a hh download and I deleted it just in case.

I am not going to be dl anything anymore unless I know it's safe.. some ppl are really malicious.

I know the lemoncandy decor are causing the blue lot issue, I just saw a post where a guy actually found it in a hh and once he removed it the blue lots were gone, but he had actually put it in the hh himself and forgotten about it.

    It was the potplant.

I didn't even know about that Sims 3 workshop thing.. lol, shows how clueless I am.

So far all the patches have been fine with the patterns as well as that lipgloss I have in the game so I am hoping I will be fine when I manage to buy WA.

This family has a vampire shirt in the dl that makes alien freak toddlers.

  8. Oh, no! I'm bummed to find out lemoncandy's stuff is causing glitches. I love her stuff. Well, I'll just be careful with it - only install one at a time and play the game to see if I have blue lots or some other weird thing.

Yeah, I really am going to bed this time. Damn Internet.

  10. And all this time I thought the
s3w in the launchers installed content section stood for sims 3 worsiedog. Shows how much I know about custom content. I don't know where some of the things came from.
I just know I deleted averything that had the icon before I patched.

  11. I recognised some of the SW3 stuff as patterns I dl individuall.

The lipgloss and tight shorts I must have got from a sim that I dl off the exchange. But I deleted almost all the sim dl yesterday, I am going to go back and go through the list agian and delete some more.

I installed all your guys sims into my game yesterday. I also uploaded all my freewill simmies but I am waiting for the end of the month when I get new data cap so that I can upload it onto my worsiedog page, I'll let you know when I do.
