FYI - Culling

Did you see that EA is going to start culling the exchange?  Items will be culled after two weeks if they do not do well.  They do not specify their threshold to retain an item.

  1. I seem to recall they did the same thing on the sims2 exchange. Maybe when they do, the forum will work better.

  2. Do you remember what the threshold was in order to keep an item on the exchange?

  3. They had a star rating system.

4.5 stars would mean the item was pretty safe. By 4.7, it would stay quite a long time.

3 stars would disappear in about 2 weeks.

Damn, I should go see if Thomas Landgraab is still there. He had 66 downloads which was by far the best of my Sims.

The pets were never culled nor the stories.

  5. I wasn't on the forums long and now I can't access them, again. But, they mentioned stories and movies were part of the deal. And they said featured items would never be culled.

This will be based on downloads.

  6. From the forum post

"We’ve been receiving a lot of great content uploaded to our Exchange and Movies & More. To make sure the items stay fresh we’ve implemented a culling script that will remove older items. For those of you who are not familiar with culling – it is when uploads, Stories and Movies are automatically removed from the Exchange and Movies & More when they do not do well (not getting enough downloads and recommendations). The more Recommends and Downloads you have, the better. Exchange uploads, Stories, and Movies will be subject to culling after 2 weeks if it does not do well. Searching for content will be easier with culling turned on and awesome uploads will have even more of a chance to shine.

If an Exchange item, Story, or Movie is Featured, it will never be culled. "

So recommends and downloads. At least we won't have the complaints that the star system had. A couple of hate raters could drop your stars *very* fast. Recommends last forever and no way to drop them.

  7. Thanks, PiB. Still no concrete definition of how many downloads and/or recommendations you need to have. How will this affect avatars? What if none of your uploads meet the criteria? Will you have to upload a new avatar every two weeks or will their system automatically leave avi's alone?

  8. Once you've set the avi, the Sim can be deleted. I did that once with a bearded but not pretty pic Thomas. He wasn't getting downloaded so I deleted him but left the avi alone.

  9. BTW - I'd be shocked if they clearly defined what it takes to stay in the Exchange. They never did on Sims 2, you just had to deduce it from when your uploads disappeared and what had happened to them lately.

  10. I think we'll figure it out pretty quickly. I bet the forums are going to erupt.

  11. I went on to bed last night and that's why I never answered.

I never uploaded or downloaded on the bbs and didn't know exactly how it worked. I just remembered reading people had things deleted.

Many people aren't using the rec button on the sims3 forum and a lot of things are probably going to go away that would have stayed if it were used more.

I can see it now. A rush to re-upload things in game that have been removed and as Chrysame stated, the forums will erupt.

I really liked the way the BBS was set up more than the sims3 forum. They were stricter there though. I received 2 warnings on the BBS.
One was for posting in the wrong place and one was for giving out too much info. I never gave out too much info. I was pretty close to being banned. I did post in the wrong place, once. It was the first post I ever made. I asked for help in general.
If they get as strict on sims3 forum as they were on the bbs, there won't be many people left.

  12. Rumours are flying in the forum that the cutoff for recommends is 10.

If that's true, my studio will be empty - I've never had more than 7 recommends for the most popular items.

I was hoping it might be something more like 50+ downloads and/or 5+ recommends but we'll see.

  13. As usual, I can't access the forums. I can only get on around 2 am or some such nonsense.

My studio will certainly be empty if the cutoff is ten recommendations. The closest I have is Mick with seven.

  14. I had 12 with Alicia Longshore. That's the only one that would be able to stay if the rumor is true.
