Updating to Windows 7

I'm finally moving from XP to Windows 7.  It's going to require a clean install.  I'm transferring everything I need and can to a portable disk drive and I'm going to run this on Saturday.  If all goes well, it will take a while to re-install all my programs.  I'll be able to use my laptop to chat but no play time for me until everything is cleared away.

  1. Good luck with the upgrade. I remember two months after I bought this computer, it died. Just died. Since it was under warranty they sent me a new hard drive or whatever you call it. I installed it and got everything up and running. That's when I learned why they charge so much to do these things. It took forever for everything to load.

  2. Good luck. I hate doing any of that sort of thing.

I still haven't had the patience required to install some of the games I think about playing onto this new computer. Especially Sims 2 - that would take some serious time since I'd have to put everything on to play my old families.

  4. It went very quickly and very smoothly. The only problem is that hubby updated my video card drivers and now I get the occasional graphic glitch with Sims.

  5. Glad to hear it's all done. Hope the glitches get worked out.

  6. It's been a bad day. I'm afflicted with the Error 12 problem and I can't resolve it. I'm going to do more research. Poor Aaron has aged to teen 5 times and it never sticks because I keep losing the game.

  7. Oh no. I read about that on the forum but never checked to see what the solution is. Good luck. Keeping fingers crossed for you.

  8. This is a bit frustrating. Even running it as an administrator I'm getting Error 12 messages. I can save for a bit and then, bam! Hmmm.

  9. Man, I feel your pain. Having to do the same thing several times isn't fun (which is why poor Sam at 110-112 days old had to die.)

I'm also frustrated. I checked the Sims 3 on the Mac side and it *did* understand all the downloaded content. Then I made a critical mistake and uninstalled it then reinstalled fresh. Since then, it has no problem with downloaded Sim and patterns. But it does not use downloaded Store content - including Riverview. The hair, the clothes, the objects == non-existent. :(

On the other hand, the slightly less well dressed and groomed Grant clan are playable. Though I have yet to save a game, I didn't want to save while stuff is missing.

  11. I would be pulling my hair out right now if I had to deal with all the things you two are dealing with.

  12. I know you have both probably already tried this and you will both want to slap me when I ask this but, did you go into that place in your computer where you add and delete stuff? The place where you add and delete programs. When I was having trouble with a world I downloaded I had to go there too, to get rid of it.
Is it possible something is still hanging around in there that needs to be deleted and then added back?
