Story telling via Sims

It is so interesting since I only need partly plan the story.  Like the current Sammy story in progress.  I have a general plan and so far everything is moving to plan.  But I'm not sure how it ends.  I'll know the end when we get there, but I'm not quite sure what it's going to be.  There are several possibilities and it's really going to depend what the Sims do.

I know some people who do story telling force every moment but I find this method more satisfying.  I tell part of the story and they tell part of the story.  :)

  1. Right! Provide a loose outline and then let the Sims color in all the detail. I've been learning to keep my story outline real loose. My Sims like to have a lot of wiggle room.

  2. With the Doing Time in Sunset Valley story I've been following the screenshots. I have no overarching storyline or plot...just the pictures telling me where to go and where to stop. I'm not sure that's a good or bad thing but so far so good.

I'm also learning a bit more about good pictures like try to keep the plumbob out of the shot! *reminds self*

BTW, can I get that blog added to the list of our blogs? Thanks.

  3. Chrysame: You are doing fine. You'll find your comfort zone, like the rest of us have, with this style of gameplay and storytelling.

I've added your blog to to list. After all...it should be there.

Hope you have a great weekend!

  4. Thanks, Muleskinner! I kinda of like not knowing what's going to happen until I go over the pictures. It works for Marta.

Now, we'll see what happens to Lessen Plans. I'm going to use that blog to explore the EP when that comes out in ten days or so. I might need to add more structure to that blog.

Is anyone else getting the EP?

  5. Thanks for adding the blog to the list Muleskinner. That's one of the advantages of making several of you into admins, you guys can change the widgets as well as me. I thought Chrysame was an admin too but I might not have remembered.

I usually play with no particular story at all, Adventures in Free Will has no story. The saves that are normal games following one family along have no story.

But I do have a fairly good idea of what in general I want to happen with each Sammy clone. Just not the exact path to get to the conclusion.

  6. This is the way to do it, I find that if you leave your sims and the game, they do things that give you story ideas and though sometimes you may nudge them in a certian direction, it can happen the way you want it to all on it's own. I found this especially with the gen3 of my CrinkleWinkle Legacy. I got an idea in the end of gen 2, I did some things in the start of gen 3 and then the game did some unbelievable things that made the story get more depth and meaning and gave the characters an almost RL feel.

    Ok, I'm waffling now. LOL.

  7. Sometimes I make plans but seldom follow through with them because the pics lead the way.
I still take notes on who is who and what was going on to help me remember with some kind of order.

  8. I agree. I'm really loving this style of gameplay. I love that the pictures make their own story and the more pics you take, the more a story unfolds and pieces fall into place. It's really exciting when the story they tell is consistent with things you'd written about before. I couldn't plan it that well!

  9. Chrysame and PiB,

You are welcome! I don't mind doing a little admin from time to time.

About our sim characters and this style of gameplay: It just seems so...so liberating. Kind of like a special 'Independence Day' for our little pixelated friends.

  10. Right now, it's almost as though Sammy and his family are working with me. Last night one discussion had exactly the thought bubbles I was hoping for.

Oh, and Cindy has grown into a disgustingly, appallingly adorable toddler. Why do people keep saying that adopted children are hideous?

  11. It drives me bonkers when I see those threads on the Sims boards. I think some people feel if they don't use a ton of CC including skins then the sim isn't pretty.

Sue D Nim's manly man thread has netted some really good looking manly men. But, others have posted up guys that, to me, do not meet the requirement of manly man.

  12. Hey Chrysame,

It's been true since the Sims 2 bbs. I can't say how many times people post about how loathsome the adopted child was and how many of them were killed until a pretty child was found. In Sims 2, people would create a family and kill the parents just to have cute children in the adoption pool (orphans from another family were the first to be available for adoption.)

Yes, there is a definite class of Simmer who thinks any Sim without a ton of CC is ugly.
