Long topic line - but that's the gist of this idea. Share some music you think not everyone is well acquainted with.
Now I'll start with the same one I was sharing with Kaleeko yesterday - Peter Gabriel. If you've seen her video of Sammy Stride with Pride, you've heard at least one of his songs but here are a few more
Rhythm of the Heat
San Jacinto
I Have the Touch
I Grieve
That's a good starter for Peter.
My suggestion is to only do one artist per post. But a couple of different songs to show their style.
First I wanna say -- I looooved all of those. I'm gonna have to go nab them off iTunes.
ReplyDeleteTo be honest, I don't really listen to specific artists as much as I listen to specific 'feels' of music; a good deal of my music is just singles I love ripped off of various friends CDs. And lots of soundtrack music. And, lots of Enya -- but everyone usually knows who Enya is, so that's not new.
However, there is one band that I always love to listen to when I feel down, because it's got that "contentness" to it, and that'd be: Death Cab for Cutie.
Here's some in order of <3ness:
I Will Follow You Into the Dark
Your Heart is an Empty Room
A Lack of Color
Transatlanticism
Well, I guess they aren't really "Happy"... But they always make me feel good when I listen to them.
Death Cab for Cutie - interesting. The music is quite pleasant then what the lyrics actually are kind of hits you in the face.
ReplyDeleteSome of Kate Bush's music is like that. Her "The Wedding List" combines some fairly innocent sounding music with lyrics that make you go "What the heck did she just say?"
And today's music is a one off cause I doubt I'll find more than one on YouTube
Forgiveness Took awhile for me to track down that CD.
Death Cab for Cutie's got some really provoking lyrics -- but the sound is definitely very innocent sounding at first. I also love Postal Service, which has the same singer, and a very similar 'content' feel to it, but it's more electronic sounding.
ReplyDeleteI reeeaaaally love that song you posted!! Hehe, saying that I like Enya probably gave you a pretty good clue into what kind of music I like, I bet... Unless you don't know who Enya is. If you don't, you should be ashamed!
I can't think of anyone else to link off the top of my head to post, but maybe once I've slept I'll think of something.
Course I know who Enya is. I even know about Clannad.
ReplyDeleteI love folk and celtic type music. Which is how I found Loreena McKennitt.
Ah I know who's next - the Aussie Band The Cruel Sea. The lead singer has a voice that I love.
Better get a Lawyer Never heard a live version before...
It's all right - cause she loves me
